Green training 'important as Britain escapes recession'

Business minister Ian Lucas has highlighted the role that green training can play in Britain's recovery from the economic crisis.
Speaking in Gateshead, he points out the government is "investing in vital skills" to support the increasing amount of green jobs that will be created.
"We know it is important to train and upskill young people as we move out of the downturn, especially in growth areas like low-carbon technology," he adds.
Mr Lucas said that both those in the region who already work in the industry - as well as schoolchildren - will be able to learn more about the technology and production methods behind eco-friendly vehicles.
Speaking earlier this month, Neil Wallis, head of communications for the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, claimed that as the economic crisis saw drivers increasingly focus on cutting motoring costs, the downturn may have helped to drive the popularity of lower-emission CO2 and the subsequent rise in green collar jobs in the sector.
