Is the north-east in need of green training?

The need for those living in the north-east of the country to have access to green training opportunities has been highlighted.
Sarah Green, regional director of the Confederation of British Industry's north-east division, states that with the area's long history in manufacturing it is an ideal place to benefit from the transition to a low-carbon economy, the Evening Gazette reports.
Indeed, Ms Green states such engineering skills "will continue to be in demand and will help position our region at the heart of the green economy with significant manufacturing opportunities including offshore wind and low-carbon vehicles".
However, as future generations will be unable to rely on a single career or job for their entire lives, people "need to be continually developing new skills to meet the increasing technological pace of change", something that could highlight the need for green training.
Meanwhile, the newspaper's Karen McLauchlan recently stated that although the region has suffered due to the global financial downturn, an increase in the number of green jobs is helping to drive economic recovery.
