Investment in green training 'needed to make full potential of wind power sector'

Wind power could prove to be a significant driver of economic growth in the UK, if the comments of one industry expert are anything to go by.

A spokesperson for the Renewable Energy Centre points out that while the country has the potential to lead the rest of the world in producing small-scale wind turbines, the government need to make sufficient investment in green training "to bring this to fruition".

"Any level of funding and investment given to the industry must be used to its full extent; in order to maximise the renewable sector's potential development and growth," she adds.

Those seeking out green collar jobs in this sector may want to note her claims that wind power could provide up to 45 per cent of the country's electricity needs and will play a vital role in reducing the UK's carbon emissions.

Such comments follow research carried out by RenewableUK noting the country's small wind systems market was worth £17.12 million last year, a rise of nearly a quarter (24.5 per cent) from 2008.
