Green training advice was recently given to those in the construction industry at a special event held by Jewson.

With the session held at the firm's Sheffield Parkway branch, those with green collar jobs were advised on how the likes of ground source heat pumps and solar panels can be used in the construction process.

There was also advice on rainwater harvesting, aimed at helping those in the sector comply with new legalisation aimed at using water in a more efficient manner.

In addition, the green training session saw builders advised on how to take advantage of the government funding that is available to incorporate into their products.

"Anyone involved in our industry needs to have a full understanding of the sustainable solutions that are available on the market and how these solutions can help builders reach the various levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes," Lee Whitehead, manager of the Jewson branch, states.

The green training session came as Tom Hopkinson, managing director of Taylor Hopkinson Associates, recently told the Scotsman that while Scotland has the potential to be a renewable energy jobs hub, there needs to be more training to allow people in the region to take up the opportunities that the sector can offer.
