Greenpeace: Electric cars investment can create green jobs

Green jobs can be created through the production of electric cars, according to Greenpeace.

The environment organisation said that renewable energy and energy efficient home improvements could also be areas where green jobs could be created.

Greenpeace executive director John Sauven was speaking after the government announced it is to cut more than £30 million of funding to low-carbon technology projects.

"Renewable energy, electric cars and efficient homes can provide thousands of new jobs and real prosperity but only if investors know that this coalition is serious about sparking a low carbon industrial revolution," he said.

Mr Sauven added that alarm bells should be ringing following the release of a report by the Committee on Climate Change, which warned that government cuts may harm the creation of green jobs.

Earlier this month, Madeline Hall, head of specialist college Capel Manor in Enfield, told the Guardian that green jobs are a good option for young people in post-recession times.
