Green jobs created in north-east

Green jobs have been created in the north-east as a result of a £200 million investment.

Sembcorp UK and SITA UK are to join forces in order to produce the Wilton 11 energy recovery facility at the Wilton International site.

Around 200 jobs will be created during the construction of the new building, which will sustain 50 green jobs once it is completed.

Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council George Dunning stated that the investment is a boost for industry in the north-east of England.

"The renewable energy sector is thriving on Teesside and this latest news is extremely welcome from both an environmental and economic point of view," he said.

He pointed out that as well as the new green jobs, there will be further opportunities opened up at firms further down the supply lines.

Business secretary Vince Cable recently revealed that the government is going to help firms to create green jobs via a stimulus package.
