SolarCentury to create 150 new green jobs

SolarCentury has announced that it is expecting to create around 150 new green jobs in the coming months.

The firm has already increased its workforce from 200 to 350 members of staff during 2010 and stated that it will employ more people into green jobs by the end of the year.

Seb Berry, head of public affairs for SolarCentury, explained that green jobs in the UK are being boosted by the new feed-in-tariff by the government.

"The feed-in tariff means that UK PV companies can plan with confidence, invest for the future and take on many more staff as the market continues to grow in a sustained way," he said.

According to the company, solar power has a long history in the UK, despite some people not believing that it can work because of the country's often gloomy climate.

It explained that the Labour government conducted tests between 2000 and 2005 to establish whether or not solar power could be used to generate energy in the UK.
