Government reveals backing for green jobs

Hundreds of apprentices are set to be given the chance to work in green jobs under new plans revealed by the government.

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg stated that 1,000 young people will receive state funding in order to enrol in green collar training courses.

He explained that the move comes as part of the coalition's Green Deal and is part of its aim to be the greenest government ever.

"These apprenticeships are a perfect example of how government and business can work together towards a low carbon future," Mr Clegg said.

Business secretary Vince Cable added that the green collar training is "essential" for the British economy, while Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, pointed out that his firm is looking to recruit another 2,000 people to green jobs.

This comes shortly after Huw Irranca-Davies, Labour MP and shadow energy minister, stated in a column for the Guardian that the coalition needs to do more for the creation of green jobs.
